How to Do It: Part One – Motivation

After the seemingly monumental task of pre-planning the entire business process before you even open the door for business, you’ve got to sit back and realize you’ve only just begun. After all of the legwork has been completed, you may just be plum tuckered out from the work. If your enthusiasm is flailing, now is the time to really determine if you are willing to follow through.
If the answer is ‘yes, CONGRATULATIONS! You have come a long way – but understand you still have a lot more miles to travel. Finding the motivation to continue moving forward may prove difficult. So how do you stay motivated when you are scared out of your wits to begin moving forward? There are several ways to give yourself the boost you need to carry on.
Create A Goal Sheet
If you completed the majority of your business plan, you already are familiar with the goals you have in mind for the actual business. But you also need to focs attention on the many goals you have mentally set for yourself. This is the perfect time to analyze and remember what got you so jazzed up about your business ideas in the first place. Refer back to your initial pros and cons list and remember all the benefits of working for yourself that you were look foward to achieving. Set reasonable golas for both the short and long term. You’ll feel so good every time you start checking itms off of your list or when you add a new replacement goal.
Clear Your Head
Unless you are planning to market and sell a trendy fad that will die out in the next few weeks, there is no need to rush right into everything at once. Take time to cool your jets and re-focus on the positive excitement of working for yourself. Anxiery and furstration will certainly not lead to increased productivity or creativity. Get in the habit of taking regular walks, hitting the gym, or enjoying some alone-with-your-thoughts time to refuel your spirit. Establishing these routies early on and sticking with them will be advantageous to you dow the line when business is booming.
Stay Optimistic
There may be plenty of naysayers who will doubt the potential of what you are about to do. Two words – so what! I you have done your due dillegence and fee ready to face up to the challenges, what others say around you should not bother you in the least. Stay on course and move forward. Let your motivation stem from your own self-development and not to impress your family and friends. Deal with your own doubts promptly but don’t waste energy on the doubts of others who are not immediately affected by your choices (ie: your spouse and children).
Stay Informed
Depending on the nature of your business, it may be imperative that you stay in the loop on industry-related news. Do what you need to do but don’t overload your system with too much information. Doing so may well leave you in a panic about your choices. Stay calm, stay informed, and remain positive in your visions and goals.
