Backing Up Our Theory

As we’ve said MANY times on Empowering Mom, NOW is the time to chase your dreams and start working for yourself. That, essentially, is the basis of this entire site. We are three ladies who have each left the stability of 8-5, ditched the daycare, and found success working from home as freelancers. We tell you all the time that you can do it!

Now, I would like to point to further proof that we know what we are talking about. Today on CNN’s website, there is an article “Will Your Next Boss Be YOU?”

The article reinforces the fact that more and more companies are turning to freelances for their projects.

“There are also big economic incentives to hire freelancers, he said. Businesses cut the costs of benefits and payroll taxes and often don’t have to buy new equipment or find work space for a freelancer.”

With the economy so unstable and the amount of businesses closing shop, companies are realizing the benefits of hiring freelances on a long-term basis or a per-project basis to save on overhead. Businesses get the work they need completed without having to hire or maintain additional staff.

This is great news for us freelances. I personally can say that business has never been this busy, even during the bad economy and recent influx in layoffs. This article is a good read and offers tips for those of you interested in giving it a go. There is even some inspiration from a fellow entreprenuer who hit it big with her own freelance business.
