Work-wasn’t happening last night.

It happens…I guess. For everyone of us we get times that regardless of what we have to do, it simply is too much. For some reason that is what happened last night. After picking my son up from daycare, I was listening with one ear about his adventures and thinking of what I had to do when I got home. We were about a mile away from daycare when I turned the car onto a road that we don’t use to get home. “Mom, where are we going?” came from the back seat, “well baby, we are going to the Family Dollar to get some art supplies”. And that was that. I spent $7 bucks and stocked up on construction paper, colored pencils, and a few other artsy things and off we went, for an evening of fun.
I mentioned yesterday that time is a struggle for me. I know I am not alone in this. I often see on websites and parenting forums how we distinquish ourselves by where we work, at home or outside the home. What we all should be calling ourselves WATTM (work ALL the time moms) because we do, each of us. Whether from home or an office or both, the work is never, ever done.
But sometimes like last night you just have to turn it all off and be a mom. The fun kind. The one that detours on the way home to get art supplies so that the evening can be a bit of fun instead of rushing around to make dinner and clean the house. It has taken some time, but I’ve finally realized PB&J qualifies as a nutritious dinner and the laundry will in fact wait another day. However, my little boy will only be a little boy for a minute in time.
Take a minute ladies and enjoy your families, everything else will wait!

What kind of masterpieces did you guys make?
I totally agree that sometimes you have to just throw your hands up and play, no matter what remains on that to-do list. I think it only becomes a problem when we give in to the urge to do that 6 out of 7 days a week or something. It’s all about balance….
