Busy Day… Busier Night on Deck!
Posted by Debbie Dragon on October 14, 2008
My almost-six year old woke up today as if he had eaten a bag of chocolate in his sleep. He was literally bouncing from one thing to the next, being loud and obnoxious and no matter how many times I asked him to calm down, it was like he just couldn’t help it. So I fueled him up on Apple Jacks cereal and sent him off to school where he could entertain the teacher, sometimes it’s better them than me, let me tell you!
Busy day planned. My little guy will be picked up by his transport service about 10:10am and off to preschool, I’ll head out to a doctor’s appointment at 11… probably pick up a coffee lunch afterwards. At 1, I have to pick my preschooler up and head out to another appointment at 1:45 and make sure we’re back home by 3:30 to get the bigger guy off the bus.
In case you lost track- that’s a whole day basically without work time – not a good thing when you’re running a business and have work stacked up on every surface of your desk (and the top of the refrigerator, the living room end table and the kids’ dressers). It’s how I know I’ve got an even busier night on deck. It’s
the reason I know to pick up extra creamer and sugar on my way back from one of these appointments – the evening and night hours will have to replace the lost day hours today, which typically means coffee to help keep me going when the eyelids require toothpicks to stay open.
Thing is- I don’t even mind the switch in work schedule for the most part. I don’t want to be doing that for the rest of my life, but until my youngest starts a full day of school, I think it’s a small price to pay for the pleasure of being a hands-on mom who can also pay the bills.
What would you be willing to give up for the opportunity to stay home AND earn enough money to do so?
